Delegates from Preston International School, Akure were at the 2011 NISSMUN Conference in Abuja F.C.T. Coordinator Mrs. Amobi reports...
A BRIEF REPORT ON THE NISSMUN CONFERENCE HELD AT THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CENTRE, ABUJA BETWEEN 22ND AND 27TH OCTOBER 2011.
The aims and objectives of the conference were to gather secondary school students in Nigeria together to deliberate on international issues and find solutions to them at their own level. The journey to the conference was peaceful and safe. The delegates were registered on the day of arrival and were checked in to the Petrus Hotel.
Prestonians participated in a variety of activities including an inter-denominational service, followed by elections of Chairperson, Rapporteur, Directors, and Secretry General. Prestonian Rehoboth Ekpekurede won the position of a director, and Stephen Oni emerged the best delegate with the highest level of participation nationwide. Rehoboth has been invited to be part of the organizers of the next conference. Well done, Rehoboth!
The conference was coloured with the visit of the Central Bank Governor Lamido Sanusi who dealt thoroughly on the theme of the conference "FIGHTIHG CORRUPTION TOGETHER". This was a deep, thought-provoking speak by Alhaji Sanusi. Prestonians gained a lot. Also, the wife of the vice president Hajia Nnamdi Sambo also visited us for the opening ceremony. There were committee sessions, cultural day, and on the final day 26th was a dinner night which lasted till the next day at about 5.30am. On getting to the hotel, we packed our baggages and departed.
And to the glory of God we arrived Akure at about 2.15pm. We look forward with eager anticipation to next year's NISSMUN conference.
