Ten Things I Like About Preston - Toyin Ikuomola

Oluwatoyin Ikuomola

Toyin is the first Chapel Prefect of Preston International School.

Preston is a wonderfully blessed and made school situated at Km 6, Akure-Owo Road, Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria. It is an independent, co-educational residential school. There are many things to say and stories to tell about Preston, but I would like to limit myself to only ten things I like about Preston. They are:

1. Classrooms: The classrooms are spacious, airy and conducive for us to study in and we understand better in that kind of atmosphere.
2. The teachers: The teachers are very friendly and they give us the opportunity to be free and open with them. They give us good advice on things to do in our everyday life. I really appreciate them.
3. Standards: Preston aims at building fine, well-cultured, well-educated, respectable ladies and gentlemen who will contribute hugely towards the development of our society. Therefore, as anyone would expect, our standards here must be very high and they are indeed high. The standards here are high, morally, behaviourally, academically, spiritually and otherwise. As part of the standards, we have counsellors with whom we have a dedicated time to see. They give us advice and counsel us on any issues arising and this helps a lot in our everyday life.
4. Hostels: The hostels are divided into two – the boys hostel and the girls hostel. They are spacious, big, airy and just suitable to live in. Here at Preston, life in the hostel is as enjoyable as that at home although there is much discipline, as we are taught to conduct and discipline ourselves properly.
5. The houseparents: I love my houseparents because each time I have a problem or need advice from them, they willingly give me and the same goes for other students. They might even relate their advice to different situations that might have happened or are happening presently and this builds us up in different aspects of our lives.
6. The natural feeling: The wide, green vegetation is beautiful, the sky which often looks blue and clear is lovely and amazing. At Preston, the natural feeling is so dazzling and it allows you to really sit down and appreciate God’s wonderful works. Sometimes, I just praise God for this natural feeling and I sometimes make drawings out of what I see.
7. Food and dining hall: The food is prepared under a greatly conducive atmosphere and it always comes out delicious. It is very pleasant to eat here at Preston being a person who enjoys eating, I would say they give us totally balanced diet. The dining hall is big and suitable to eat in. It is always kept sparkling clean and we eat very comfortably there.
8. The non-academic members of staff: They are very kind, cheerful, sweet and they relate well with us. They care a lot about us and also give us the advice we need. They are like parents to us.
9. The proprietor and the senior management: Preston goes beyond education alone, but also morals. I like the proprietor and the senior management because they are always concerned about us and want the very best for us. They care about us and give us godly advice relating to different issues.
10. The school logo and motto: The school logo truly defines Preston. It consists of a cross which represents the school’s Christian ethos and the radiating waves which represent the strong impact and power of Christ’s influence all around the world. The motto, “WE ARE ABLE”, says everything about Preston. We are able to do all things through Christ who strengthens us and by God’s grace, we will get there. GOD BLESS PRESTON!
